A cleric has shared the occasion when a person sought to force his way into his city synagogue during a deadly assault, remarking "I witnessed malevolence, I observed hate".

Rabbi Daniel Walker stated that he and fellow worshippers held the entrances of Heaton Park synagogue as Jihad Al-Shamie was "forcing the entrances, flinging large plant pots, doing anything he was able to to get in".

Applauding the swift-response of those at the temple, he remarked: "I observed real bravery, I must admit, and individuals who ran to help fellow members rather than escaping. It was remarkable."
