New England Match Longest Victory Run From Tom Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
New England matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots secured an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye accumulated 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
Victory bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England answered in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He wants to be great."
Fields threw to Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
