Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs to Miss Concert Series for Cancer Treatment

The guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has revealed he will miss a leg of his band’s reunion tour as he begins treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Tour Dates Affected

The 60-year-old musician, a original member of the group, confirmed he will be unable to play at the upcoming shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.

The show in Seoul is scheduled for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.

Statement on His Condition

In a online statement, he disclosed that he was found to have prostate cancer earlier this year and is reacting positively to therapy.

“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The positive aspect is I’m reacting very positively to treatment, which enabled me to participate in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am having to take a planned break for the subsequent stage of my care, so I’ll be missing the concerts in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m very disappointed to be absent from these events but I’m doing well and will be back ready to go in time for the South American leg.”

Previous Health Challenge

This is not his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been found to have a tonsil cancer diagnosis.

At that time, he stated: “Just to inform everyone I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the positive news is it’s treatable and I will be starting a treatment plan soon.”

Career Highlights

Arthurs was a member in the band The Rain with Liam Gallagher in the early 1990s before they brought in the frontman’s sibling, Noel, who later insisted they adopt a new name.

He featured on three records with the group, including the landmark Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before departing in 1999 during the recording of the fourth album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band temporarily and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his solo career, most recently at the UK music festivals in 2021.

He also formed the group Parlour Flames and served as a broadcast presenter after his period in the group.
